Hofner Model 458 Archtop
Introduced in 1954, the 458 appears to have been a deluxe version of the Hofner 456 model, with its gloss black finish.
Other than the finish, all other features correspond with the 456; i.e. an all laminated maple archtop body of standard size - 410mm wide and 80mm deep, with fairly generous binding/purfling around the body edges. The three, or in some cases five, piece neck carried a rosewood fingerboard which was bound in white celluloid. Ornamentation comprised of pearloid strip fretmarkers and Hofners three-piece pearloid/tortoishell/pearloid headstock fascia. The better quality Trapeze tailpiece was fitted, usually with the Karl Hofner logo.
Both cutaway and non-cutaway body options were available. An electric version was not offered ex-stock, but was probably available to special order.
The 458 was discontinued in 1966, some four years after the demise of the 456.
